Delaware real estate: Big houses with a small chance of selling | delawareonline.com | The News Journal
In the past year, auto dealer John Hynansky has spent about $700,000 renovating his gracious 1920 Tudor-style mansion in preparation for putting the Chateau Country property on the market — again.
Three years ago, Hynansky thought he had sold the property in a handshake deal to liquor distributor Christopher Tigani for $5 million, according to court records. But the sale of the 8-acre former du Pont estate off Kennett Pike fell apart, deteriorating into a messy lawsuit that is still pending in the courts.
Now, after evaluating the stagnant market for multimillion dollar homes, Hynansky has decided to pull the plug on listing the mansion.
“I’m going to wait until the market turns,” Hynansky said. “Everybody says prices are too high and they’ll try to steal it. I’ve lived in the house for 25 years. I’m not going to give it away.”
